Starting off in the rural streets of Waco at the age of 15,
Slim Gutta (Joseph Chatman) had no guidance in his inevitable
pursuit of his music career. As most kids, rapping and
freestyling was a way to pass time. Eventually, with
his love for music, he got together with local neighborhood
friends and started to make local underground mixtapes.
Friends and family didn't realize the potential that
Gutta had until they started hearing his songs on mixtapes
and quickly realized that Gutta was a man with a promising
future. Gutta didn't need people to tell him though
as he quickly found out himself.
In 2003, Gutta had to make the decision to move to Grand
Prairie, TX, but still wanted to pursue his passion
for music. While living there, Gutta would find his
faith in front of a local known DJ by the name of DJ
Panic of Akk Bad Entertainment. It was there where the
start of his career would begin, recording his first
ever song in a studio and picking up an underground
buzz in the local town. His pursuit would not end there.
In his continuous pursuit to express his world through
his words, Gutta would eventually run across what would
be the next phase in his future, meeting CJ (Jab Collins),
who introduced him to the rap world in Austin, TX.
Eventually Gutta’s life ended up in Austin, where he
met up with several promising ventures in his music
career. He was introduced to a local group by the name
of V.I.P. that would feature him on a song for their
upcoming mixtape. From that point, Gutta was then introduced
to Gerald Geezy (Gerald Goldsmith), and Ryno (Ryan Roberson).
The three worked and talked amongst themselves and along
with CJ, the four would come together to form the group
Monsta Entertainment. It was here where Guttas’
future would launch, recording several group songs and
getting ready to release the group album, as well as
doing shows. Unfortunately, unforeseen events would
break up the group and the album was never released.
Lost in what to do next, Gutta would eventually find
himself placed in Atlanta GA, where he would meet some
important people to continue his pursuit, Chino Dollar
and Yung Joc. Yung Joc was just gearing up for his national
release and was planning on working with Gutta on several
projects. In addition, Chino Dollar was investing into
Gutta to produce some songs for what would be the start
of Slim Guttas’ solo album. Again, unforeseen
events caused Gutta to have to move from Atlanta back
to Austin, TX where the worry of making his solo album
would decease. Already taking on Ryno from the defunct
Monsta Entertainment, Triple D (Danny Davis) and On
The Line Records agreed to work on Guttas’ album
and put the project out.
After his first recording, it was a no brainer that Guttas’
style, aggressiveness, and appeal would launch On The
Line Records into it's next phase to break into the
market. His debut album - Real Gutta Music - is a portray
of Gutta's life living in Waco TX. This is the beginning
to the future of Slim Gutta.
